Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant, Helsinki 13.8.2011

What a lovely morning! After an one hour run in the morning it was a very good idea to have brunch. I was so hungry and thirsty - like always ;). We decided to visit  Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant For the last two weeks Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant's venue has been in Kalasatama in an old harbor by the sea. Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant is based on a solar kitchen concept where cooking is by pure solar energy.

The Food is cooked using only the alternative energy; the sun. Solar heat affects the taste and the texture of the dish in a surprising and positive way. At Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant you will be able to watch the cooking process. You can get more info from their web sites: Lapin Kultas Solar Kitchen Restaurant or from Facebook.

During this weekend Restaurant offers Brunch from 10 to 13. We got there just before 11. The weather was  wonderful. Sun was shining and there was a warm breeze. We were lucky; there was  still room for us and we didn't have to wait at all.

At first we got something to drink - quite a  lot different kind of drinks actually; water, coffee, tea, juice with a taste of ginger and Finnish beer of course. There were also some bread and butter. As starter we had Beans in Tomato sauce. It was good! I think it might have been my best experience with beans. The sauce was fresh and tasty with a hint of coriander.

After beans we had the main course.           There were omelette, fresh vegetables like carrot, peas and cucumber, mushroom, tomato and two different kind of cheese. Ingredients were fresh and good. My favourites were the really fresh and tasty vegetables and the omelette. Cheese was also really nice.

For dessert we got Chocolate cake with blueberries, gooseberries and caramel sauce. The Cake was delicious!

This brunch was truly an experience! The staff was very friendly and the service was good. The Atmosphere was peaceful and relaxed. The price for the brunch was 15 €, it included coffee, juice and tea. Water costed 2 € and a bottle of Lapin Kulta 4 €. In my opinion the brunch was affordable. The quality of the food was really good and it tasted fresh. The venue was interesting and execptional and especially the way of cooking was amazing.

So, we really enjoyed our time in Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant. Nice weather, good food and drinks, friendly staff and nice company. Lapin Kulta Solar Kitchen Restaurant has innovated a new way of preparing food which has attracted a lot of media attention. There happened to be reporters making videos in the area about the restaurant and we heard that there's going to be an article about Helsinki in magazine called Monocle

Antto Melasniemi has innovated this concept with Martí Guixé and with little help from Lapin Kulta. They follow the sun through Europe and now they are in Helsinki till tomorrow ;). Last chance!
