Restaurant Jamie's Italian, London 9.7.2011

Jamie's Italian is in Covent Garden which is a popular shopping area in London. The restaurant doesn't take reservation. You just show up and get this beeper that tell's you when your table is ready. Usually it takes anything between 30 minutes to an hour. This time we got lucky, we had to wait only maybe 20 minutes.

Mirka has been here before and you can find the prior review in the end of this review but it's in FINNISH. It's from Summer 2010. Last time there were mixed views about the food. And this time the same thing happened...

This time we were here for lunch. So we shared an appetizer and had main courses. The apetizer was ITALIAN NACHOS (£3.55) which was crispy, fried four cheese ravioli with 'angry' arrabiata sauce. The dish was ok, nothing that special...

ITALIAN NACHOS

Last time I got the best risotto I have ever eaten so we decided to have some risottos. Mirka chose RISOTTO MILANESE (£6.95/£11.95) which was creamy saffron and Parmesan risotto with herby roasted bone marrow and lemon & parsley gremolata. Pauliina chose WILD TRUFFLE RISOTTO

(£6.75/£11.50) which was finely minced wild black truffe with creamy rice, butter and Parmesan.  Both risottos were really plain and didn't taste like anything. The texture was really watery. So we had to send them back to the kitchen. The nice thing was that they took it very well and apologized for it.

Instead of the risotto Mirka chose these lamb raviolis. And they were fantastic! Such a difference compared to the risotto!!!

Pauliina took SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE (£6.65/£10.25). It was great too!

So all in all, the food was very unconsistent. And that was our experience the last time we visited here. So if you get lucky you can get something amazing or something quite bad....


The service has been very good and polite the both times we have visited. The waiters are smiling and fast.

Jamien Covent Gardenin italialaiseen ei oteta etukäteisvarauksia. Saavuimme ravintolaan lauantaina noin kuuden maissa illalla. Saimme mukaamme hakulaitteen, joka piippasin runsaan tunnin kuluttua, että pöytämme on valmis. Ravintolan sisustus on nuorekas ja rento. Palvelu sopii mainiosti paikan tunnelmaan. Rentoudesta huolimatta palvelu oli erittäin asiantuntevaa ja miellyttävää.

Ruoka jakoi seurueemme (4) mielipiteitä. Alkuruoista risotto lähenteli taivasta. Paras risotto ikinä! Antipasti lautaset olivat myös ok; juustoja, lihaa, leipää ja vihanneksia. Annokset olivat myös runsaat. Pääruuista carpaccio oli loistava valinta. Lihan lisukkeen oli valtava salaatti, jossa maistui voimakkaasti piparjuuri mausteena. Ah ja Voih.

Kampasimpukka annos oli niin suolainen, että se jäi syömättä. Myöskään "FISH BAKED IN A BAG" ei saanut suurta suosiota, mutta oli ihan mukiinmenevää. Myöskään jälkiruoka ei ollut ihan napakymppi, suklaisen tortun piti olla lämmintä, mutta se oli kuivaa ja kylmää. Tämä kuitenkin hyvitettiin laskun loppusummassa. Ruuan kanssa tilasimme alkuun pullon kuohuvaa, ruuan kanssa 2 pulloa punaviiniä ja lisäksi kahvit ja amaretot loppuun. Koko illan lasku oli 43 puntaa henkilö. Menisimme tänne kyllä uudelleen, yhden kerran jälkeen jäi fiilis, että ruuan taso on hyvin vaihteleva. http://www.jamieoliver.com/italian/covent-garden
